FAQ

Which aluminum dock is right for my waterfront?

The Dura-LITE™ is best for medium to large water bodies and larger watercraft. The Feather-LITE™ works well for smaller lakes and lighter boats. If you’re not sure, our team can help you find the right fit.

How much help will I need setting up an aluminum dock?

Most Dura-LITE dock systems can be installed by two people with basic tools. Depending on site terrain or layout size and complexity, additional help may be recommended.

Are Great Northern Docks aluminum docks made in the USA?

Yes. All Great Northern Docks aluminum docks are designed and built in Maine.

Can I add sections to my aluminum dock later?

Yes. Dura-LITE™ docks use Snap On Connector J Brackets, so you can add or reconfigure sections without special tools.

What is the difference between a floating dock and a stationary dock?

Floating docks follow water level changes automatically, making them easier to manage drastic, in-season water level fluctuations and better suited for deeper water. Stationary docks are supported by pipe driven into the lakebed, allowing for height adjustment while providing a more stable feel underfoot. They are typically preferred in rough water conditions and offer greater flexibility for adding accessories.

Aluminum Docks Built for Real Waterfronts

Great Northern Docks has been designing and building aluminum docks in Maine for over two decades. We offer two aluminum dock lines, Dura-LITE™ and Feather-LITE™, each built for different waterfront conditions, water bodies, and watercraft types.

Dura-LITE™ Stationary Docks

The Dura-LITE™ is our premium stationary aluminum dock, built with an 85lb 4×10 frame that handles medium to large water bodies with ease. Its 6″ tubular perimeter design outperforms typical channel-frame docks in vertical load capacity and torsional rigidity—and truss-frame docks in resistance to twisting. Installation can usually be done by two people and can be reconfigured using Snap On Connector J Brackets.

Dura-LITE™ Floating Docks

The Dura-LITE™ floating aluminum dock is the right call for waterfronts where water levels fluctuate or depth exceeds 8 feet. It carries the same frame quality as our stationary line, with your choice of natural red cedar or synthetic decking.

Feather-LITE™ Stationary Docks

The Feather-LITE™ is built for smaller lakes and lighter watercraft, including pontoon boats, aluminum boats, and smaller fiberglass crafts. Its 5″ tall tubular frame is still stronger than most aluminum docks on the market, available as a stationary dock only.
